An extensive extended cruise around the Australian Coast was terminated days after the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a break. The liner departed without her and came back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the passenger was unaccounted for.

An extensive hunt located her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

Head of the cruise operator stated that travelers and crew on the ship were informed that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also published an revised statement, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" prohibiting any additional guests from entering the liner.

The official said that they would visit the liner in the port city upon its coming back.

The ship originally sailed from the coastal city on 24 October, and was merely two days into the expedition at the point of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Family Reaction

The daughter of the victim said that her family was "shocked and grieved that the vessel left Lizard Island after an organised tour without my parent".

Through her comments, she described her mum as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a bushwalking organization.

"According to scant facts we have been told, it looks that there was a lapse of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She added that she wished the inquiry would be able to determine what "the operator should have performed that might have preserved Mother's life".

"According to reports from the police that it was a extremely warm day, and mum fell ill on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to return, alone. Then the vessel sailed away, reportedly without conducting a headcount.

"At some stage in that process, or soon after, mum succumbed, without company."

Organization Position

Via official communication, the CEO verified that the company was "working closely with authorities to aid their examination".

He stated that the organization was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had provided its full support to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Standards

The ship caters for up to 120 travelers with nearly fifty staff, according to company data. It was purpose-built to reach isolated areas of the nation's coast and is outfitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to transport individuals on land visits.

Events like this are uncommon, and passenger vessels have procedures to track which passengers are embarking or getting off, according to industry experts.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard really isn't an option," a specialist commented.

Cruise lines regard these procedures with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to stop such occurrences from occurring," the authority added.

"This is presumably a surprising - and sad - single occurrence."
